The Nigerian Senate was Tuesday thrown into commotion as lawmakers were divided on whether to consider or reject the report of the committee on Anti corruption and Financial Crimes on the confirmation of nominees to be appointed as members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC.
The committee chaired by Senator Chukwuka Utazi had approved the confirmation of nominees from North East, South West and two nominees from the North Central with the exclusion of the South South and South East geopolitical zones.
In their observations,Senators from the South East, South South called for the rejection of the report, adding that the current administration is now notorious for lopsided appointments in flagrant disregard to the Federal Character Principle.
For the lawmakers, the principle of Federal Character should not be sacrificed on the altar of nepotism and ethnicity and total disregard for the nation's unity.
