The Philippines has sent 69 containers loaded with trash back to Canada after a court determined that the waste was improperly labelled as recyclable.
The M/V Bavaria was loaded overnight on May 30, 2019, in preparation for the 20-day journey to Vancouver on Canada’s west coast.
Philippine authorities have already buried some of the original consignment of more than 100 shipping containers from Canada in 2013 and 2014.
The vessel containing mostly electrical and household waste is on its way back, only days after Canadian authorities agreed to take back the trash and pay shipping costs.
