Bystander Effect - Reality Of Vast Majority

A five-year girl died in India after her mother tortured and forced her to stand in blazing sun. Torturing the children is common in our region. A little boy crying while being thrashed. A little girl weeping while being beaten. But no one asks the parents to stop. No one cares, no one intervenes, they aren’t rescued. Because children are considered a property in our society. But it doesn’t stop here. As they grow, the challenges multiply
Previously, it was just the immediate family but now they also face extended family the clan, the elders who decide their fate. Be it a “formal jirga” or the gossip of family members or the whims and wishes of some influential elder. it is they who make final decisions. But what happens if someone protests?
The answer is NOTHING and instead victim blaming comes into effect. This is the reality of life for a vast majority which has nowhere to escape, no protection In this scenario, there are very few who opt to resist, knowing success isn’t guaranteed.
