Kollam: Employees at the Punalur taluk office leaving en masse to attend the wedding of a colleague’s daughter left the public in a lurch. The incident occurred on Thursday. When people came to the taluk office to apply for ration cards and other needs, empty chairs greeted them. The staff had come to the office on time, promptly signed in the attendance register and went to attend the wedding. The wedding took place at Anjal, around 15 kms from the office. The staff returned to the office after 4 hours. The public had no choice but to wait until the staff returned. Irked over the irresponsibility of the government staff, the public staged a protest. As the issue created a controversy, the taluk supply officer granted leave to all the staff who went to attend the wedding.
