Unfortunately, any time we do something to try to sleep we immediately make sleep more difficult.

When I finish working with clients, they frequently tell me that learning to accept they can't control sleep (and consequently, worrying less about sleep and not putting effort into sleep) was one of the key breakthroughs that helped them get their sleep back on track.

We cannot control sleep. Sleep happens when we abandon all sleep-related effort.
