Normal delivery or natural delivery is the best mode of delivery. We don’t consider pregnancy as a disease. It is a physiological phenomena which should also end physiologically in a natural or a normal delivery. But how do we achieve this? Going through labor pains is running a marathon. It is not easy. Labor pain is supposed to be most painful but most of the women go through it. How they go through it? Will you be able to go through it is the question which most of them have in their minds, we prepare the women through the 9 months to run the marathon and is to bear the pain. We do this in various methods or various ways where we prepare her physically, mentally, emotionally for the D day of labor. The first is the metal makeup of the patient which is very important. It is important for the lady to have a strong will that she will have a normal labor. So we prepare her for this. How do we do that? Most of the times it is the patient’s anxiety that what is going to happen. How will it be? That is what creates fear in them, we have child birth education classes , where we educate the woman a to what is normal labor, what to expect, what are the events happening, what does the doctor do, how will the pain be, how should the pain be and how to cope up with the pain? So knowing what is going to happen will reduce anxiety and if we know what is going to happen before labor and this is what I should be doing to reduce the pain by myself, then I will be able to go through the labor better. So in that way we are preparing the lady through these education classes and the second method what we do is we subject all the women to yoga classes or physiotherapy classes. While we are stressing on these exercises is these are exercises specifically meant for pregnancy. Most of them have backaches or aches and dull aching pains and cramps during the 9 months of pregnancy. If they are somebody doing these exercises they will not have these kinds of pains. In turn they are also getting prepared for the labor day. Most of the who are going through these classes regularly or who are doing these exercises regularly more chances of having a normal delivery, they will have a shorter duration of labor and they will be able to cope up with pain better, that’s I what we regularly see. The other method of increasing the chances of normal delivery is epidural analgesia. For patients who are very sensitive to pain, it is better to go for epidural analgesia but what I see in my regular practice is that patients who have been regularly exercising will say that they don’t require epidural analgesia and they will go through the labor pain. So it is all about wanting to have a normal delivery and mental makeup of the patient.
