*Brazilian Beirute Sandwich: Beef Steak Strips & Fresh Veggies On Flatbread*

The beirute is a popular sandwich in Brazil thanks to the country's rich history of immigration. Consisting of roast beef, cheese, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce layered between two pieces of flatbread, this local favorite hails from the Levant and was made popular in South America after a large group of Lebanese people settled in the region in the early 20th century. We'll show you just how easy it is to make such a delicious sandwich, and then it will be clear why it's such a fan favorite.

You'll need:

For the flatbread:

- 9 oz flour
- 5 fl oz lukewarm water
- 1 tsp salt

For the filling:

- 7 oz shredded cheddar
- 7 oz onions
- 16 oz beef steak strips
- 2x ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ tsp pepper
- 2 tomatoes
- 4 leaves green leaf lettuce

Here's how:

1. Prepare the dough using the above ingredients and knead for about 5 minutes. Halve the dough and form 2 balls. Roll both dough balls out into a circle, making sure that they are both approximately the same size. Cook both sides of each dough circle, one right after the other, in a dry pan over medium heat. Set the first cooked flatbread aside for now and leave the second flatbread in the pan.

2. Once the second flatbread is well cooked on both sides, sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top. Once the cheese has begun to melt, remove the pan from the heat for a moment.

3. In another pan, sauté the sliced onions in olive oil and season with salt and sugar. Once the onions have begun to brown, put them on the flatbread with cheddar cheese.

4. Let the second pan get hot again and add some olive oil. Add the steak strips, sauté them, and season with salt and pepper.

5. Put the cooked meat on top of the onions, and garnish with a few tomato slices and leaves of green leaf lettuce.

6. Top off the sandwich with the plain flatbread piece from the beginning – you can use the plate to help flip the sandwich from the pan.
