Russia celebrated Defender of the Fatherland Day on Saturday, lighting up Moscow and St. Petersburg's night skies with a stunning firework displays.
In Moscow, the fireworks were launched from 16 sites. The evening sky was illuminated by 300-meter domes of red, white and green sparks.
The sky in St. Petersburg was lit up by the fireworks traditionally launched near the walls of Peter and Paul Fortress.
The Defender of the Fatherland Day is a nationwide holiday is honoured annually on February 23, celebrating those who serve or did serve in the Russian Armed Forces. It marks the date of the establishment of the Red Army in 1918.
