(ii) Section 80DDB of Income Tax Act :
(a) Who can claim this deduction?
It can be availed by Resident Individual and HUF for money spent on treatment of specified disease of Dependent Spouse, Children, Parents, Siblings.
If dependent has Insurance and he has reimbursed claim by Insurer then such reimbursement shall be reduced from the amount of deduction.
(b) How much amount can be claimed as deduction?
It depends on age of person in respect of whom money is spent
If his Age is Less then 60 years then deduction will be flat Rs 40,000.
If dependent person is senior citizen then deduction will be Rs 60,000.
If dependent person is Super senior citizenthen deduction will be Rs 60,000.
Ref : Senior citizen = Age 60 or more Super senior citizen = Age 80 or more.
For A.Y. 2019-20 for both senior citizen and super senior citizen limit will be 1,00,000.
For claiming deduction Certificate of specified doctor is required.
