Monterey Bay scientists eavesdrop on marine life using hydrophone

Scientists at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute installed a device called a hydrophone 18 miles offshore and 3,000 feet deep.
It is designed to record marine life within a 500-mile radius.
