Brand Name Prescription Medication Is 80 Percent Of Drug Sales

According to UPI, name brand drugs are responsible for 80 percent of all prescription sales. A study conducted by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, or BCBSA, tracked eight years of prescription drug use, price changes and spending for medication. The investigation found that Blue Cross spends more than $100 billion a year on prescriptions, which accounts for 20 percent of its overall healthcare spending. In contrast, generic drug spending has gone down by 3 percent since 2016.
